As of today it looks like Taylor will be moved across the street to Shriner's Hospital next Tuesday, January 3. She will have surgery at Shriner's on January 8 to install the phrenic pacer. Following surgery, she will go through rehab for 4 to 8 weeks to ween her off the ventilator. If everything goes according to plan she should be breathing on her own in a couple months. Although she has learned to talk a bit with her ventilator, she will be able to fully communicate with the phrenic pacer.
Taylor has been sitting up in her chair a lot lately. The goal is to have her sit in the chair for three hours per day. She's been doing well considering that it's not always her favorite activity. She continues to do her physical therapy. They concentrate a lot on working her neck and shoulders. Yesterday she moved her neck and shoulders at the same time, causing her to lean forward a bit.
We hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and got to spend time with family and good friends. Taylor has received all of your Christmas gifts and well wishes. Because Taylor loves spending Christmas at home with all of the lights and decorations, she has requested to celebrate Christmas once she gets back home to Chico. So don't be surprised if you notice Christmas lights and a Christmas tree in Chico sometime next year!

Hi Taylor! I was happy to wake up this morning and see a new update on you! I bet you did miss all the Christmas lights. I think it's a great idea for you to have Christmas when you get home! I love all the pretty bright lights too! I was hoping to take Travis up there to see you while they are on break from school, but we all have colds and aren't feeling well. The last thing you need is a cold! But we will make the trip when we are feeling well. We can't wait to see you Taylor!
Always in my thoughts and lots of love you Taylor,
Kim Gardner (Travis's Mom)
Hi Taylor, I have emailed the Volunteer Coordinator for Shriners to look out for you when you move there. She is in charge of entertainment and since I know you like to sing, I want to make sure Lillian Nelson looks out for you! We are having a Pops concert at 3 p.m. tomorrow in East Sacramento. I wish you and your family could attend. We will have an Arts Festival on May 12th at Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Maybe you can come from Chico to attend. One of our storytellers for the Festival lives in Chico! My husband Jim works with your Aunt. Take care and keep up the progress!!! Brenda Waters

The lights are a wonderful plan! We should all celebrate Christmas more than once a year anyway! Can we come by to see the lights when you get home? We'll just drive by and honk!

Hi Taylor,
We have never met, but we are cousins. My grandpa and your grandpa Doug were first cousins. Your grandma Vickey used to babysit me when she lived in Woodland. I'm 13 now. I know your mom and your aunt Melissa. I'm glad to hear that you are making such great progress, and I hope you get to go home soon. I look forward to meeting you and your brother Tanner some day. I read about you all of the time. You are my hero!
Your cousin,
Gretchen Karlstad
Happy New Year Taylor...
I love to read all the wonderful progress you are making sweetie. Keep working hard and you will see the results. I'm so gald Avery gets to see you often, she talks about you ALL the time. She had her daddy put a picture of the two of you in her room. The picture is a few years old when you both were at grandma Vickies. Happy New Year.
Love
Gigi

Hi Taylor,
You are always in our thoughts, especially over the holidays! We think Santa and the Easter bunny are friends, so celebrating them together might be fun?!
The New Year is full of hope! We love you, Tera and Aubrie
Taylor,
